At Midcoast Vets, we’ve been performing a wide range of surgical procedures for many years, supporting clients who may not have the means or ability to travel for specialist referral. Over the past 15 years, we’ve significantly expanded our surgical capabilities—attending advanced workshops, undertaking specialist placements, and assisting in complex cases at referral centres.

Our dedicated team, including highly trained support staff, is equipped for optimal peri-operative care. We’ve invested in top-quality instruments for soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, advanced diagnostic and monitoring systems, and state-of-the-art imaging, including ultrasound, endoscopy, and CT.

Since opening our purpose-built Macksville Clinic in December 2023, we’ve been able to take on a greater variety and volume of cases—both independently and alongside visiting surgical specialists. This has enabled us to offer advanced surgical and diagnostic services to the wider region, helping clients access high-quality care without the cost and travel of metropolitan referral.

We operate strictly on a referral-only basis for these procedures—performing only the surgery or diagnostic service requested, with no additional or follow-up work outside the referral. All referred clients are flagged in our system to ensure this policy is followed. Full case histories and post-procedure updates are provided to both veterinarians and clients.

In addition to small animal services, we also perform routine and complex equine dentistry, including most dental extractions.

We’re proud of the services we can now offer from our upgraded facility, our CT capabilities, and the expertise brought by visiting specialists. We hope to partner with more local clinics, so their clients can benefit from high-quality veterinary care without the burden of long-distance referral.
